Hidden in Plain Sight
SAFE in Northern Michigan’s Hidden in Plain Sight trailer was developed to educate parents and caregivers on what to look for if they suspect that their teen might be using substances. The trailer is designed to look like a teenager’s bedroom and includes a variety of items that represent assets, which is something that has a positive influence on the teen’s life such as family, music, or sports, and risk factors, such as vapes, alcohol, and marijuana. The trailer travels across the counties that SAFE serves and makes an appearance at community events, parent-teacher conferences, and sporting events. Traveling Teen Bedroom Brings Awareness to Current Drug Trends
SAFE in Northern Michigan is working to educate parents on the emerging substance use trends for teens by creating a replica of a teen’s bedroom that travels to various sites. The trailer, which has been converted to look like a teen’s bedroom, will be parked outside of high schools in Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet counties during parent-teacher conferences with the intent of informing parents about vaping, marijuana, underage drinking and other substance use related items. Local schools have noted an increase in the use of vaping devices by their students. Many parents have reported being unaware of current drug trends and delivery devices.
